Educational crafts for kids are a powerful way to spark curiosity and make learning fun. A Chopstick Launcher is the perfect example of a project that blends play with science. With just a few chopsticks, rubber bands, and a little imagination, your child can create a working launcher that demonstrates force and motion.
If your child is into physics, he can assemble the launcher, test it with paper ball, and then adjust it to see how far it flies. You’ll love how this activity makes science feel exciting. It’s simple and guaranteed to keep your child busy without an electronic toy.

First things first: measure the width of your chopsticks.
Drill a hole through the wood block that's just big enough for the chopsticks to slide through easily.
Kids, an adult should do this step to keep you safe.

Take a screw and twist it into one side of the block, but only halfway. You want it to stick out a bit.
Line it up with the hole you made so the chopstick can pass by it smoothly.

Now, do the same thing on the other side of the block. You should have two screws sticking out opposite each other, which will soon hold the rubber band in place.

Stretch a rubber band and hook it onto both screws. This is what will launch your chopsticks, so make sure it's on there good.

Wrap the rubber band around the screws a few times to make it really tight. The tighter it is, the faster your chopsticks will zoom when you launch them!

Now, take the chopsticks and split them apart.
Be careful not to break them! Each one will become its own little launcher.

On one end of each chopstick, use the cutter to carve out a 'V' shape.
This will help you hook the rubber band when you're ready to launch. Adults should help with this step too.
Slide a chopstick into the hole and pull back on the rubber band to test how strong the launch will be.
The rubber band should sit in the 'V' you carved. If you want more power, wrap the band around the screws some more.
Hold the wood block, place the chopstick in the hole, hook the rubber band on the 'V', pull back, aim, and let go!
You're all done! Challenge yourself with targets or play safely with friends.
Safety Tips
Always use caution with your launcher and never aim at people or animals. It's a toy, but it can still hurt someone if you're not careful.
Making a chopstick launcher is a fantastic way to spend an afternoon crafting and playing. Building a chopstick launcher is an exciting project that teens will love!
It’s easy, creative, and teaches basic engineering skills while having fun. Kids can enjoy friendly competitions and see how far their launcher can go.
